The Organization of Black Designers (OBD) has a solid commitment to provide educational opportunities for its membership and to nurture young designers seeking entry into the design industry. The Organization has established a number of mentoring initiatives across the country and continues to seek opportunities with educational institutions, industry and corporate partners for experiential mentoring and professional leadership experiences.
Originally launched by OBD/Chicago, the Youth Design Forum focuses on the talents and interests of inner city youth from 6-18 years of age. Students participate in annual design competitions that include products such as a tennis shoe, chair or car. The program culminates in a one day forum where the competition is judged by professional designers, awards are exchanged and presentations are given to encourage participating kids to pursue careers in various design professions.
