Programs
The Organization of Black Designers (OBD) has a solid commitment to provide educational opportunities for its membership and to nurture young designers seeking entry into the design industry. To this end, OBD has initiated several programs to ensure the transfer of knowledge through mentoring activities and professional coaching.
OBD Mentoring Initiatives
The Organization has established a number of mentoring initiatives across the country and continues to seek opportunities with educational institutions, industry and corporate partners for experiential mentoring and professional leadership experiences.
OBD Youth Design Forum
Originally launched by OBD/Chicago, the Youth Design Forum focuses on the talents and interests of inner city youth from 6-18 years of age. Students participate in annual design competitions that include products such as a tennis shoe, chair or car. The program culminates in a one day forum where the competition is judged by professional designers, awards are exchanged and presentations are given to encourage participating kids to pursue careers in various design professions.
